I watch the dagger plunge into her heart
When I say I just cannot take part
In this game she wants to play
What is it that the dragon say
If you dare fire, you’ll get burned
And I’ve tangoed with the furnace and I’ve learned
To never quote the things you say
As if they were true anyway
Then I watch her eyes go wide
As if she has nothing to hide
Could it be in innocent prose
I have killed the horse I rode
To the pasture green
As evidenced by the queen
By my side
But she whispers “you are still alive”
As if the fact passes comprehension
And I never did get a mention
In any of the stories you told
“What?”, she says “I put you in bold
And in the aforementioned text
You never read the part where we had sex”
That stops me dead for a moment or two
Then I remember I’m dealing with you
And you’re a master of manipulation
And your education
Is like a trophy you wear
On your arm but I just tear
The fabric of that particular dress
But you look at me and I’m a mess
Spurning looks and throwing out words
As if they’ll ever be heard
By anyone in the abyss
And she says she’ll miss
The way my shy smile came to her like a gift
Oceans between us and the great rift
