The Personal Love

Trying to save spare change
For the ways I’ll never rearrange
The match of the beat as I tap my toe
I never would’ve wanted you to go
But you sailed to a foreign shore
And you know I just wanted you more
To be the one that I adore
Though you don’t know what it’s for
And angels are looking overhead
Soaking away all the dread
As I begin to trust myself instead
I wonder sometimes if you’re wed
Or taken in some way or other
See me as a friend or a brother
And I just want you hand in hand
Pouring into life like sand
And if I ever got you close
You would see I’m not a ghost
To haunt and terrify
Or sell you stories on the sly
Just be honest, open and true
Admit that I love you, too
