Standing In The Heat

***Trigger Warning – Mental Health***

I’m standing in the heat
And I feel the power of us meet
As we are seventeen and eighteen
I learned that every dream
I ever had
Could be tied to feeling bad
Because it all gets taken away from me
One way or another by time or indignity
And you were sent like a saint
Now it’s my blood you use to paint
Your facebook page
And I feel a certain scent of rage
Colour my cheeks
That you think I’m weak
And need the help of my family
When I’ve always rebelled at what they wanted from me
Now I’m held like a noose
As though I’m the golden goose
That must be prized in case she is set loose
By her own hand
But I wouldn’t worry, I am grand
And have no intention to jump from a cliff
It’s all held in a what if
And the march of time
Can steal everything but what’s mine
God plucked me from the sea
When dying was all that was left of me
And I fought my way to the shore
Gasping and what’s more
I was tired and wrecked
And something woke while I slept
And in the bathroom I couldn’t bear
To look in a mirror that would tear
Who I was to pieces
Coz everything that’s born deceases
And my grandmother just left this earth
And I can’t seem to bear the hurt
I was fourteen
And my scream
Was silent and unheard
Except by that holy bird
Who alight on my shoulder
And somehow roll away the boulder
In the mouth of the tomb
I find my Jesus and resume
My prostrations at the feet of my Lord
It’s not over till you hear the spoken Word
Made flesh
And every regret
Falls to the floor
As I worship what I was born to adore

The Auspices

I can feel it rising like a storm in me
Everything abides to its own decree
And it is a fictitious entity
Trying to control my destiny
And it moves and sways
And always wants it’s own way
In selfishness
Or things I don’t want to address
Like a broken toe
Always hurting wherever you go
Then blames the scene
But something wakes to stir the dream
And open what’s closed
No longer running like a frightened ghost
Into the sea
The ocean has waves but there’s more to me
Than just surface tension
No longer afraid of what we dare not mention
To the sky
I didn’t grow up just to die
But be born again
The time is Now so that’s when

Coz You Loved Taylor Swift

You said hello
Then okay bye
And there's something about your soul
That makes me want to cry
Coz you're perfect, you're sincere
But you falter the web when I come near
And you're soft to the touch
And you're easy, then strong
And you look at me like I
Could do no wrong
But I snuck a peak
Into the deepest part of you
And I let you in
Coz you wanted me to
And all of the fabrications can't make this a lie
That we both wake up when the life tries to die
On us in this subterfuge
Do you take refuge
In her sudden storm
Does she do more than keep the bed warm
And I ain't jealous, I'm just missing out
And you kind of hit the nail on the head of my doubt
When you said "tell your folks"
This couldn't be one of your jokes
That you just play on me
You're withering and it takes time to see
That the cavalcade is just there to test
And I am not bigger and brighter than the rest
I'm just the puzzle piece to your thaw
And you run the scene like you're an outlaw
As we both find solace in what can't be contained
A sky full of clouds and then it rained

Stillness Is A Dragon

https://pin.it/2bwP6SU
Stillness is a dragon
It eats me up
And there are some people on Earth
Who would call that love
Like the last marauders
Who round the bend
Who search to find
The true friend
That shines in all lights
That is every dawn
The something that’s there
When all is gone
It’s arising in me
And it’s rising in you
The bun’s in the oven
Now let the broth stew
Til it comes steaming
Into your hands
And you know the meaning
Of life on these lands

From Afar

The sound of him
Is everything win
In no forest I can grasp
And maybe I should’ve
But I didn’t ask
Now you have her
And as far as I can tell
Everything is going really well
But I can’t watch you for an eon
Or an era
So I ditched the scales
I used to sear ya
To forbode
You’re carrying a heavy load
And relief
Should be yours
So instead of shutting doors
I’ll leave this one ajar
And love you long time, from afar

The Desert Wasteland

The desert wasteland of thirty years old
Do you believe in everything you’re told
Or is all and sundry just something to match
Setting fire to your roof of thatch
Do we all just fade away into the night
Or is there life to eternal ignite
And it never struck me that it might be strange
That I can see atoms rearrange
As they weigh on the bough of a tree
Or comes pressing down on me
As I lie in my bed at night
Before I was born into holy light
That flames my spirit to a soar
And let me know there’s something more

The Jesus In My Soul

The Jesus in my soul
Is a story I haven’t told
Coz He is always there
A place of true care
And I fell in love with men
Hoping I would see Him again
In moments silent and true
I saw reflections in the eyes of you
And you stand tall and look like a hero
And I’m on my way to absolute zero
And I dig the earth
Disregard the waves of hurt
In ages pulling hence
The present moment’s never in the past tense
And He is a forest of trees
All you have to do is believe
And trust when you’re letting go
That he will catch you, you know

Fighting With The Wind

So mad I’m taking all these pills
As I fight the doctor in a display of wills
But he always seems to win the day
And make the point I’m not okay
And sometimes I agree
As I picture a man down on one knee
That might pick me up
But I’m heavier than the weight of love
Can carry when it all boils down
I spilt the beans, you went to town
Aghast at all the mess is made
You’re throwing the game, I’m throwing shade
And we’re just resting in the silence deep
I don’t want to be less than the promise you keep
As the wings of love glide
I’m coming out of where I hide
To know the sunshine as my true nature
And where you landed left a crater
In the ground of me
Mother Earth or destiny
Shaken to my core
I try not to love you anymore
But it just pulls me back
Don’t see me as just a hack
That has to get her stories down
I hum as I drive out of town
Past a scene I know so well
If I shared a secret would you never tell?

The Forest

Growing out of the old tree
There are rings around the best of me
As I try to be tall and strong
But the wind blows to prove me wrong
In the forest with all my peers
Scattered light to crystal clear
The pine floor for the girl who walks
And it’s to those beings that she talks
And hears their reply like the soul in the air
She wasn’t home til she went there
And lay down under their canopy
Living love like a recipe
To fathom days that have lost their weight
And she has given up on hate
Coz it only defeats itself
Like icicles in sun to melt
And she squares up with the cards she’s been dealt
And the monumental that she’s felt
It’s all come to naught but here
She’s still among friends so dear
That listen as they simply sway
She sighs and would not have it any other way

Vision

I felt I was always waiting for my big break
And the world would discover me and you’d see your mistake
But it’s been over twenty years since I started writing songs
And novels in my bedroom willing them to play along
Cause I swore that I would captivate all of life from a stage
And I could mould a beginning from the ashes of my rage
And that band we never quite managed to get together
Before you left me on the sidelines for what you can’t remember
But I still swear I will make everybody so proud
And be the rebel who stands out from the crowd
The golden girl they always said would go far
But the darkness broke my spirit and you broke my heart
And I am just a shell of who I used to be
Or the ambition that I held and what was in store for me
Now it feels like I’m swimming underwater
And I have been reduced to just somebody’s daughter
Though I feel know musicians who have made it big
Or the idols of my writing and I visualise a gig
That brings us altogether and finally reveals
The depth inside of me that nobody steals
In passion and in presence to step inside my own
The fire and the promise I have always known
The inspiration deck from my observatory
I was not born to hide away so listen to me
And the aching wisdom that just came with this body
The omnipotent surrender, I’ll leave you thinking of me

The Glorious

I want to be inspiring
Or beautiful
Or both
I don’t want to write the night
Anymore

Though I have written it well
As well as can be written
When darkness is your subject matter
As it turns to a golden sheen
In the morning light

But there is another way
Another turn of phrase
That lifts you up
To higher consciousness it seems
And rewards are your delight

And the marks that have been made
Filter away,
Pourously, as though they were never there
To the pure calm space within
That always holds its peace

I don’t want to write the world in vain
I want to write the glorious
Of undying rain
As it pours heavy from the sky
On me

Paper Planes

All of these words are just errant musings
The product of introspection and my perusings
And I wonder do they add to naught at all
Just the scribblings of a child in crayon on the wall
But it’s only when I write that I truly see
The breakdown of what is troubling me
And the way I can fix it or how it tapestries
Into the weave of earth’s cosmic mysteries
For there are some things for which no explaining
Could ever illuminate what you’re detaining
When reasons all fail you and you just cannot find
The evidence for your theory that the world is kind
But let it just blossom like the bloom of a bruise
As it spreads out in colours you use
And slowly heals up and returns to source
There are some things even man can’t divorce
Like his or her very own essence
The body is just the skin in which we are dressing
And never can amount to the sum total of us
There’s a power inside where I place my trust
So whether I be broken or raised up on high
I’m aware of that which can never die
And I have been both the bottom of the bowl
And the queen of plaudits but neither touch my soul
I just keep on keeping my cart in the race
And seeing the good in everyone’s face
And nobody worries about the self esteem of the bad
It seems like payback they lost all they had
As punishment reigns on their earthly domain
We say they deserve it when they feel pain
But what are we doing to our brothers and sisters
That we demean them as less in the things that we whisper
And spitefully reap what they could not sow
They’re dead in their eyes so I think I will go
But even if they’ve been bullet strung
They’re not the last step on the laddered rung
And all things of Earth will return to the Divine
It’s just we don’t see how the threads entwine
So forgive the mutineers for they know not what they do
In the words of Jesus and he’s talking to you
So as my broken pen fills out that lament
I send my love to you and that’s where it went

The Reminder

You look at me with that hypnotic stare
Is there a real person under there
And you poison the paradise that ventures my soul
Was it just a dream that I could be whole
When we are both halves of the same coin
Let man not part what God thought to join
And in the rivers of death and of misery
I want all the pain brought back to me
Because each slice is a reminder of us
And the bridge that we built in stone walls of trust
So turn to your new life if that’s what you deign
But just to let you know, my love will remain

Daydreaming of You

If I could write you a poem what would I say
I love you forever like I love you today
And whatever water washes us down the line
I know in my heart we are for all time
You fill up my daydreams and I paint you unique
Releasing the things I’m longing to speak
You have a smile that crumples my soul
And a look in your eyes to show what you stole
We are so close though our bodies are far
We both share the moon and sit under a star
So when the wind rushes the hair off my face
I am wild horses and it’s you that I taste
But I come to you fragile and my head bowed low
Because you are more heaven than I know how to know
I look in your eyes and you see me right back
In know in this moment there’s nothing we lack
